🚗 Getting There from Village at Commonwealth

  • Distance: ~85 miles
  • Drive Time: About 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Route: Take I-485 to I-73 South, then follow signs to Zoo Parkway in Asheboro

Tip: Leave by 8:00 AM to arrive when the zoo opens at 9:00 AM and beat the crowds.

The zoo is divided into two main regions: Africa and North America, each with its own entrance and parking lot. Highlights include:

  • Africa Region: Elephants, giraffes, gorillas, zebras, rhinos
  • North America Region: Polar bears, otters, grizzly bears, bison, and sea lions
  • Interactive Zones: KidZone play area, Garden Friends Playground, and Zoo Trekker stations with hands-on learning
