One of the exciting parts about living in The Village at Commonwealth is the “up and coming” nature of the community. Exciting new developments are happening almost every week as new businesses and eateries open on every corner. If you’re looking for a great new hangout that is close to home, you’ll be glad to know that several new bars have opened recently or are in the planning stages. Here are some to consider checking out.
The Workman’s Friend
1531 Central Ave.
Take a step inside The Workman’s Friend and be transported to Ireland. This recently opened Irish pub was designed to be a place to gather with friends and socialize. Though somewhat small, it is cozy and decorated beautifully to resemble a historic Irish pub. The 85-year-old building the owners chose perfectly compliments the “Old World” feel of the new pub. For food, The Workman’s Friend serves up Irish fare with a Southern influence, with things like fish and chips sitting on the menu alongside fried okra. There be plenty of pints of beer to wash it all down, of course.
The Hop Shop
717 Lamar Ave.
Step inside The Hop Shop and you’ll get the distinct vibe of a trendy coffee shop. Yet when you pull up to the counter you won’t be ordering a latte. Instead, you’ll be ordering one of 12 beers on tap to drink with your friends or your book. The Hop Shop also has finger foods for snacks, but nothing is being cooked up here – it’s all about the beer. In addition to the 12 taps, a case of cold bottles and cans will expand your flavor horizons. If the weather’s warm, hit the patio at the back of the building.
Intimate Wine Shop
1200 Central Ave.
Though it’s not named yet, 1200 Central Avenue, the attractive house that sits at the corner of Hawthorne and Central, is about to be turned into a new intimate wine shop. The owners have filed to create a retail wine store with a small bar that offers wine tastings and other drinks. It may even feature a patio once approval comes through. Keep your eyes on this space as the nightlife options in Plaza Midwood continue to expand.
As you can see, there are exciting changes coming to Plaza Midwood. Keep your nights free to experience these new pubs, bars and wine tasting venues in the coming months.
